Staying Safe and Sane at the End of High School

Staying+Safe+and+Sane+at+the+End+of+High+School

By Andrew McCollum

Every year at Oakdale High School there is an event for seniors known as Safe and Sane. This is an event to help graduating seniors spend their final moments with their class, and win prizes to use for when they enter the soon approaching real world. This takes place near the end of the school year.

Parent Beth Case is chairing the event, along with, “volunteers, usually parents of graduating seniors and some teachers.”

“A student can become part of Safe and Sane by purchasing a ticket from their school that will allow them to enter and it is not mandatory for every student to participate.”

Case said that the event was created to give students a safe environment for after graduation parties with no drugs or alcohol permitted. This event has been going on for years in Frederick County, and Oakdale High School has been doing it since the school opened.

“Safe and Sane takes place at Knott Arena at Mt. St. Mary’s,” Case said when asked where the location of the event is located.

Safe and Sane is an event that many, if not all, graduating seniors should look forward to as they embark on the next segments of their lives.
