After Taylor Swift’s first 6 albums were sold to music producer Scooter Braun, she decided to re-record them so that she would gain ownership over albums: Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation. Fans, otherwise known as “Swifties”, have been long awaiting the release, as it includes songs from “The Vault,” which are songs that did not make the original album. The album Red includes 30 tracks, including a 10 minute version of “All Too Well” which is a fan favorite, surpassing 100 million streams on Spotify.
Swift announced the re-release of Red on June 18th, 22 weeks before the original release date. One of the original lead singles from the album is worldwide favorite “22.” In the last couple months Swift changed the release date to be a week before the original date. On Friday, November 12, she finally dropped it.
Before the re-recording was released, Fan and Senior at Oakdale High School, Riley Frutiger, expressed her hopes for the recording: “I really hope she re-records the acoustic version of State of Grace.”
The 10 minute “All Too Well” now also includes a 14 minute short film written and directed by Swift. The short film stars Sadie Sink, Dylan O’ Brien, and the singer herself. Even though it was only announced a few days before the release, the short film has still been one of the most highly anticipated parts of this release.
The Vault songs have given fans opportunities to listen to new songs and explore new favorites.
Sophomore at Damascus High School, Kendall Rill expressed, “I don’t know maybe, for Fearless my top 3 changed because The Vault songs are so good, so maybe it will.”
OHS Sophomore Jordyn Kinnee explained how the re-release and vault songs gave her the opportunity to discover new favorites: “Before the re-recording, it was “We Are Never Getting Back Together.”
Kinnee then expressed the change of favoritism when the rerecording was released: “my favorite song on Red is ‘All Too Well (10 minute version)’ or ‘Girl at Home.”
Two days after the drop of “Red (Taylor’s Version),” Swift announced a music video for the vault song “I Bet You Think About Me” which features Chris Stapleton. The video was directed by a long time friend of Swift’s, Blake Lively. This is the first Vault song to have a music video and it has quickly become a new fan favorite.
Swift is well known to give hints to what she will be dropping next. After the re-recording was released, Swift posted to social media; “ Red is about to be mine again, but it has always been ours.” This led many fans to believe that the next album she could be re-recording is her 3rd album Speak Now. Seeing that the Deluxe Version of Speak Now features two tracks titled; Mine and Ours.
However, some other fans believe that her 5th album, 1989 will be coming out next, seeing that she released the re-recording of Wildest Dreams, a song from 1989, this September. Sophomore Anabelle Houston predicted, “1989 since she already dropped “Wildest Dreams” as a single.”
Overall, Red (Taylors Version) has been a major success and fans are already preparing for her next release.
