Winter Athletes 

 

Congratulations to the Girls Tennis Team for their hard fought 4-1 win at Catoctin last week.  The girls were led by Rani Jones in first singles and Maya Schiller and Kiersten Hoffmann in first doubles who both won their matches in straight sets.  In the match of the day at second doubles, Sidney Causey and Julia Mitchel won their first set 7 to 5 and then lost their second set 6-3 before coming from behind in a third set tiebreaker winning 14 to 12.  In third doubles Kiersten Yuhas and Livia Marcetic won their first set 6 to 4 before losing the second set 6 to 2 and then rallying to win a third set tiebreaker 10 to 8. The girls are now 3 and 1 on the season and host Smithsburg today (Monday).

YACMarcus Pearson and Cassie Rutledge won first place awards in the state Young Authors writing competition. Cassie won first place for eleventh grade fiction, and Marcus won first place for twelfth grade fiction and poetry. The ceremony took place at the Hunt Valley Inn on April 3rd and featured Newbery prize-winning author Renee Watson and student readings of their pieces.
