Math and Science National Honor Societies are now accepting applications for new members for this school year.  The applications are on the OHS website in the “quick links and forms” section under content/special honor society tab.  Ms. Adams and Ms. Watson will be accepting these applications now through October 26th by 2:30 pm. If you have questions, please see Ms. Adams for Science National Honor Society in room B115 or Ms. Watson for Math National Honor Society in room A203.

The annual Oakdale High School Poetry Out Loud competition is coming up this November. You will need to visit the Poetry Out Loud website to review the rules and memorize two poems to perform. You will have a chance to move up to regional, state, and national levels and win prize and scholarship money.  If you would like to participate, please see Mrs. Showalter in room A208 to get more information and details about practices.

It’s not too late to join the Future Teachers of America Club here at Oakdale! Monthly meetings include doing fun activities like hosting guest speakers, organizing the book drive, helping with Teacher Appreciation week, and more. You don’t have to be interested in being a teacher to join and the club is flexible with meeting dates of other clubs! Contact Mrs.Kenney or Caroline Paroby if interested.

Are you interested in joining the Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society? Students must have completed 4 semesters of Social Studies courses in order to apply, maintained a 3.5 GPA in those courses, and have an overall cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Hard copies can be picked up outside of Ms. Ehrlich’s classroom (B205). Digital copies can be obtained from any Social Studies teacher.

There will be a mandatory girls basketball meeting for any student-athletes interested in trying out this year.  The meeting will be Wednesday Oct. 17th, 230pm in the Main Gym

Are you looking for a way to earn your class more points for Spirit Week?  Then bring in non-perishable food items and place them in your class’s box on Main Street before first period Monday October 15th through Thursday October 18th.  Each item earns one point for your class and supports a worthwhile cause.

Mrs. Cole’s class has taken the lead with 60 items in the first period food drive competition followed closely by Ms. Graziano with 51.  Mr. Widmeyer’s class has 29 items and Mrs. Miller’s class has 26 items to round out the top 4.

Looking good today Bears! We love seeing your patriotic outfits and showing your American pride! Tomorrow we’re going on a trip! Be your best tourist and earn points for your class in the Spirit Week tally. Don’t forget to have your teacher tally you during SET to go towards your class participation. The winner of Spirit Week participation will announced at Pep Rally on Friday!

Pep Rally Friday will be from 1-2:10. There are games, performances and we will be recognizing the fall sports. If you want to participate in one of the games like freeze dance, build a pyramid, tug of war, or the relay race get a group of friends together and start practicing! We will see you in the gym at 1!

Homecoming tickets are on sale now! You can purchase your ticket during your lunch shift. They are $20 and all students must have a completed yellow dance form. We can only sell 800 tickets so be sure to get yours early! You won’t be able to purchase a ticket if you have an outstanding financial obligation.
