Halloween is an enjoyable holiday for many people. From watching scary movies to carving pumpkins, there are plenty of traditions to take part in for Halloween. However, one activity that will always be a massive hit is trick-or-treating.
According to WalletHub.com, 68% of Americans planned to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. This statistic brings up the question: What are some of the best and worst Halloween candies?
With shortbread, caramel, and milk chocolate, Twix is able to capture the taste of many trick-or-treaters, making it a good Halloween favorite. Sophomore Kris Wang mentions how much she enjoys this treat, stating, “The caramel to [shortbread] ratio is good.”
An iconic treat dating all the way back to 1928. This simple peanut butter and milk chocolate treat is a staple among trick-or-treaters during Halloween. People love this treat so much that there is an official day dedicated to it on May 18, called “I Love Reese’s” day, according to Insider.com.
Made out of a crisp wafer and covered in milk chocolate, this treat is definitely one of the best candies that you can receive during Halloween. Sophomore Gavin Gonzales talks about this treat being one of his many favorites, mentioning, “[I] like how it’s crunchy and [the chocolate tastes good].”
Laffy Taffy is a common dislike among many trick-or-treaters. As one of the many taffy treats available, this one in particular isn’t very liked due to how easy it is for it to get stuck in your teeth. People also mention the frustration when it comes to opening this treat, as it is very sticky.
This iconic red licorice treat is a simple favorite among some people, but most don’t enjoy this treat due to its dull taste and annoying texture. Sophomore Grace Kompaore mentions, “Twizzlers aren’t flavorful to me.”
Tootsie Rolls are a chocolate taffy treat made all the way back in 1896. They are one of the oldest candies on the market for trick-or-treaters. However, its boring chocolate taste is what makes it a strong dislike among many people. Compared to other candies that trick-or-treaters receive during Halloween, Tootsie Rolls aren’t able to live up to the hype.
