Ms.Sherman, a teacher at Oakdale High School, who instructs English 11 honors, AP Language, and Composition, has been at Oakdale from the start of term two of last school year. Since then, she has integrated into the Oakdale community, and is a very beloved teacher.
“I have had experience in a lot of different high schools over the course of my teaching, as both a full time teacher and a substitute. I have to say that hands down Oakdale is the most welcoming environment that I have been in.” she revealed.
Sherman has previous experience in other professions as well, such as working in corporate america, and being a stay at home mom during the worldwide pandemic. Prior to her transition to Oakdale, Sherman first worked as a teacher for eight years, teaching high school English and Theater, before shifting to a corporate job for seven years.
“It fits right in the wheelhouse with AP Lang and I’m very much looking forward to the experience of becoming an FCC adjunct to this school.” Sherman states. She is teaching a class she never taught before, FCC 101: Intro to Rhetoric and Composition due to the previous teacher leaving, and is very happy to do so.
“Ms. Bigelow and I are starting the speech and debate team here at OHS. We will meet during block two during the fall semester and there will be signs up around the school with a QR code to fill out a brief survey. There are no requirements to join except a willingness to join and a desire to speak publicly,” Sherman explained. The Speech and Debate club, which has a growing number of 29 students, are very eager to learn how to argue in a formal and coordinated way.
“I think Ms. Sherman is a fantastic teacher. She’s committed and concise,” claims Junior Blake Von Jett, a current student of Sherman. “She excellently shows her passion for teaching by delving deep within, even going to the extent of adding tone and voice to characters within a book.” Sherman’s students are excited to learn when she teaches because she makes engaging content for her students to participate in.
Sherman is excited to return for another year of teaching. She has a lot to look forward to this year. The debate club will learn a lot from her and her own experiences in debate.
The Oakdale community is beyond grateful to have her!
