Halloween has finally arrived, bringing the excitement of scary movies, spooky decorations, and costumes. While younger kids participate in trick-or-treating, many teenagers seem to drift away from this tradition of dressing up and collecting candy. So what do teens really do for Halloween?
For many, Halloween is a time used to hang out with friends and family, even if some traditional activities might not be the main focus anymore. Some teens, despite getting older, still enjoy participating in fun activities they loved as kids. “For Halloween I like to dress up and go trick-or-treating with my younger siblings,” shared, Sophomore Xander Frye. For these teens, participating in these events brings joy and a sense of nostalgia.
On the other hand, some teens prefer not to engage in the same Halloween traditions they enjoyed when they were younger. They may feel too old for trick-or-treating and dressing up. “I don’t [trick-or-treat] anymore. I guess I grew out of it. There are just some things that need to go once you get older,” Junior Chloe Vandevander comments.
Many teens have noticed that their Halloween plans have changed since they were younger. “When I was younger I was much more into dressing up and going out. Though this year, I feel much less motivated to dress up,”Frye mentions.
Most teens lose interest in Halloween activities they once enjoyed. Instead they find new ways to celebrate or enjoy Halloween differently.
For Halloween activities some teens enjoy watching movies. “My favorite movie to watch on Halloween is Coraline. I like it because it is just creepy enough for me.” Vandervander notes.
Other teens enjoy going to parties on Halloween, “My favorite thing to do for Halloween is going to a party. I like it because it is fun to hang out with my friends,” Senior Sean Thompson mentions.
Overall, Halloween looks very different for every teen. Some still celebrate the way they did when they were little, enjoying trick-or-treating and costumes. Others however have moved on to new ways of enjoying Halloween like hanging out with friends or going to parties. Everyone has their own way of enjoying their Halloween regardless of age.
