The long awaited Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF) movie was officially released on October 27. FNAF is a media franchise and video game that was originally released on August 8, 2014. The horror game where the player is based in Freddy Fazzbears pizza place. Their job is to monitor the haunted animatronics, and prevent themselves from being killed. The game gained popularity around 2015, and fans have been excitedly awaiting the release of the official movie.

The movie starts off with the main character, Mike, getting a job offer at Freddy Fazzbear’s pizza place. He takes the job and starts his first day, but falls asleep and has a dream of a memory of his brother, Garrett, getting kidnapped when they were young.

He goes back to his house at the end of his shift, and returns the following day. He sleeps again, and has a similar dream, but then there are five kids behind him. They immediately run away when he tries to ask if they know who took his brother. He is woken up by a police officer, Vanessa, at the door. She tells him a little bit about the place, and at the end of his shift they part ways.

During the day, four people, wanting custody of Mike’s little sister, Abby, break into Fazzbears and destroy the place, in an attempt to get Mike’s job taken. While they are destroying the building, the animatronics wake up and kill all of them. One is Abby’s babysitter, so Mike is forced to take Abby to work that day. He falls asleep and has the same dream. When he wakes up he finds Abby in a circle of the animatronics, but they are not trying to kill her, instead they are her ‘friends.’

Mike’s shift ends, and he returns the following day with Abby again. They all have a fun night and work together to build a fort. At the end of the night, Vannessa’s mood changes and she says it’s too dangerous to bring Abby back.

Mike returns the next day without Abby, and again he falls asleep. In the dream the five kids run away but start attacking him, and he wakes up with the attack marks being real. He manages to escape from one of Freddy’s traps, and finds Vanessa. She admits that the whole time she has known about the animatronics, and how they are kids whose bodies are trapped.

She confesses that her father is actually SpringTrap, the one who is turning all these kids into animatronics, and now he wants to turn Abby into one. They all have to work together to save Abby from getting put into the bodies of the animatronics, and end up killing SpringTrap after his infamous words “I always come back.”

The movie’s lore was not very similar to the video game, as it was more teamwork rather than horror and killings. Urbana Junior, Delaney Sargeant, shares, “It differed from the lore in the sense that everyone came together to defeat one specific evil. While in the video games it was very different and there wasn’t any coming together and defeating one evil.”

Overall, the movie was entertaining to watch. While it was not too similar to the video game, it was a really entertaining movie to watch. Oakdale Freshman, Mikayla Green, explains, “It was nice to watch with friends and it did make me laugh.” The movie was well executed and had a good plot, even though it did not match with the plot and lore of the original video game.
