Oakdale’s Did You Miss This: Sept. 29th, 2023

On Tuesday, stores in Philadelphia were looted by huge crowds. One police man noted that the crowd in Philadelphia’s center city was around 100 people. By the following Tuesday, over 50 arrests had been made. 

The government shutdown is predicted to begin on Sunday, if no deal is reached in congress. If the government shutdown goes through, the government will only spend money on “essential services” which will leave TSA workers park employees and millions of other employees working without pay until the government reopens.

On Friday, The president announced the first White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention with the goal of reducing the nations gun violence. According to the whitehouse.gov, the office will:  “implement and expand upon key executive and legislative action” relating to gun violence and will be overseen by the vice president.

On Monday, Pava LaPere, a 26-year-old Baltimore tech CEO was reported missing and found dead only a few hours later. Jason Billingsley, a convicted felon was the prime suspect in the case and was taken into custody, early Thursday morning.

A woman’s body was found in a tractor-trailer in a Costco Distribution lot in Frederick,  on Sunday. Around 1:30 AM, someone reported the truck driver, Matthew Watley, to be under the influence when he broke the window of his own vehicle. Watley was taken into custody and charged with second degree murder.
