The Record Breaking Film of the Year, Deadpool

“A superhero with a perverse sense of humor is out for revenge. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll bathe in blood,” stated Ethan Sacks, New York Daily News.

Deadpool, a film filled with action and comedy from beginning to end, is the newest Marvel movie to hit theaters. The movie features Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool/Wade Wilson. At first, Wade Wilson was an ordinary man who received devastating news that he had fatal cancer. He then became a disfigured antihero named Deadpool. Deadpool’s goal is to catch Francis (Ed Skrein),  the evil villain, who created his horrendous appearance and who also claims to have a cure for his disfiguration. Most importantly, Deadpool wants to rekindle his relationship with his fiancé Vanessa Carlysle, portrayed by Emmy Award Nominee Morena Baccarin who was taken by Francis.

Deadpool has had  tremendous success, creating a record breaking $132 million during its opening weekend. The film has received three out of four stars on Rolling Stones, four out of five on Screen Rant, and an 86% on Rotten Tomatoes. Deadpool is a film “11 years in the making” according to Ryan Reynolds.

There have been countless Marvel Super Heroes that have hit the big screen, including Wolverine, with animal like abilities (senses, healing capabilities, etc.), and Spider-Man, who uses his spider powers to help save people’s lives. Deadpool is different. He makes fun of the heroes. Deadpool is aware that his powers of being able to heal and regrow his own body parts can help save others lives, but he does not desire hero recognition. This is the reason why he keeps denying the offer of joining the X-Men.

Helen Contreras, a Junior at Oakdale High School who watched Deadpool opening weekend,  stated, “At the end, when she was taking off his mask and it was a picture of Hugh Jackman, I literally died!”

Deadpool is a Rated-R movie and is made for viewers that have a vulgar sense of humor and enjoy being at the edge of their seats. Go buy tickets to see Deadpool now!
