Flowers from the FFA
October 2, 2017
Oakdale’s Future Farmers of America is selling flowers to raise money for natural disaster relief. Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, and the wildfires in the west are causing havoc for everybody in those locations: Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, California and Montana.
For the past few weeks, the FFA has been making flowers to sell to Oakdale students in the hopes of raising money for this good cause. All of the money goes to American Red Cross and animal shelters who are trying to help the victims who lost their homes and livelihoods.
The flowers are being sold for a minimum donation of only $1, but any amount is welcome! The flowers can be found in Mrs. Welty’s classroom or by going to the table that is set up in the lunchroom.
When asked why they chose to make flowers, junior Brian Tu, chapter president explained, “It is easy to make them in a limited amount of time because we want to be able to raise as much money as possible.”
A lot of work has been put into this project by the FFA from multiple students who are involved in this exciting club. Tu has contributed in many ways. For example, he has been making flowers and showing leadership skills by teaching others how to make the flowers.
When asked what she had done to contribute, junior Allie DiRocco, chapter treasurer answered, “I made flyers to spread information about the fundraiser and I helped make flowers.”
Everyone is putting in a lot of effort into this fundraiser, and anyone can tell that they really care about the cause just by looking at how hard they’ve worked during SET and during their free time.
Every single donation counts so make sure to stop by when you get an opportunity and get a flower by donating to this important cause.
