With Valentine’s Day recently passing, a lot of teens are throwing Valentine’s Day parties, while females are throwing “Galentine’s” parties. The main differences between a Valentine’s Day party and a Galentine’s day party is that Valentine’s parties are meant for couples, while Galentine’s is more for only friends, specifically girls. This brings up the question, which do teens prefer more?

Many couples have traditions during Valentine’s, such as buying gifts, flowers, or candy for their partners. Additionally, people will often host parties for couples to attend to celebrate the holiday. Couples will also usually go out with each other during the holiday; like to dinner or the movies.

“Me and my boyfriend went to see the Bob Marley movie together,” Sophomore Molly McNeese explains. Since Valentine’s day is a romantic holiday, couples like to spend the day together on dates.

On the other hand, for girls who are not currently in relationships, they will often host a Galentine’s party, to celebrate with their friends rather than a romantic partner. These groups will usually bring together groups of friends, and enjoy food, movies, pictures, and other fun activities with their closest friends.

Having a Galentine’s day party is a great way for friends to connect with each other rather than with a partner during a more romantic time of the year.

“Galentines is more for hanging out with your friends and isn’t super romantic, while Valentines is romantic and usually is more for people in a relationship,” Junior at Urbana Delaney Sergeant claims.

One of the most popular things girls will do during a Galentine’s day party is having every member of the party bring separate foods for everyone to enjoy.

“I love seeing chocolate covered strawberries and fruit,” McNeese shares. Oftentimes girls will try to make the theme pink, or heart shaped for the food, and bring heart shaped pizzas, pink cookies, and other yummy foods to enjoy.

Most teens prefer to have a Galentine’s party because it gives a chance to celebrate a romantic holiday without having a romantic partner. Both McNeese and Sergeant claim that they prefer Galentine’s. It’s a fun way for teens to get to have fun together during the holidays as a friend group.
