Alexia Isacco, an English teacher at Oakdale High School is known for her bubbly personality and as someone who is very passionate about Journalism. She has taught at Oakdale since it first opened in 2010, and has run the Journalism program until this year. Now she teaches Freshman and Senior English.
”I thought she was very enthusiastic and very into her job,” a past student of Isacco, sophomore Cassidy Austin, expressed.
Austin explains that Isacco put a lot of effort into her teaching.“I remember doing a lot of themes and main idea [work] along with [learning about the] Holocaust,” Austin recalled. Issaco was one of Austin’s first teachers when she came to Oakdale, and she created a pleasant first experience for Austin and other students.
From playing “school” in her basement as a 2 year old, to starting to be a teacher right out of college, Isacco had lots of experience with kids before becoming a teacher at Oakdale. “I enjoy meeting new people every single year, and getting to know them as kids,” Isacco shared when discussing her favorite aspects of teaching.
“She let us talk and have fun but we still got work done,” Austin stated some moments she enjoyed about Isacco’s class and the learning environment that she created.
Annamae Zaruba is a Senior at Oakdale High School who has had Issaco for three semesters of her high school career. “She makes things very interactive. It’s never boring,” Zaruba voiced.
Both former students agree, Issacco makes each lesson interesting and always gives students something to look forward to. “She’s very fun, she makes it very engaging. She always helps you out whenever you need it, and even if you don’t need it she’ll still check in on you. I appreciate it a lot,” Zaruba announced.
Even though she loves teaching English, Isacco really misses teaching Journalism. “It hurts and it’s sad, but I hope that Mr. Corpora leads it in a new direction. I think Journalism was already leading in a direction that I was not completely on board with, because with age, experience, and knowledge, I just wasn’t prepared for it,” Isacco confessed.
Throughout many students’ experiences in Issaco’s class, it seems they were able to have fun, learn new and old material, and enjoy the experience that was provided to them from their first day in the classroom.
Overall, Isacco is a well loved and talented teacher at Oakdale. She provides fun, engaging, and educational content for students to participate in during their classes. She is especially well regarded by her former journalism students while Isacco is very excited about what the new Journalism has to offer.
