The start of a brand new year has finally arrived! New Year’s is a time of celebration for many as they set goals for the future and reflect on their accomplishments. It’s a chance to leave behind the past and think about what to do next. Whether it’s making resolutions or enjoying the moment, it’s a time to look forward to what the new year will bring.
People all over the world celebrate the upcoming year with various events and parties. Popular ways that some people celebrate consist of fireworks or watching the ball drop in Times Square. “On New Year’s Eve I like to hang out with my family at home and make cookies because my family spends a lot of time together.” expressed Junior Luke Stadelman.
All over the world there are many different unique traditions for celebrating the New Year. In many countries fireworks are used as a big part of the celebration. According to thenationalnews.com, in Ireland, people like to bang pots/pans, and in Japan they ring 108 bells. “When New Year’s rolls around, I gravitate toward watching fireworks spark in the sky. Sometimes I may light them myself. I really like big fireworks; they’re breathtaking.” noted Junior Blake Von Jett. These traditions help reflect excitement and hope for the start of the year.
As we enter into a fresh year many people like to set resolutions for themselves. Setting resolutions has become a popular tradition where people establish positive goals for themselves. “I wasn’t much for resolutions until last year. I often associated them negatively, but one night I thought I might as well give it a shot. It sure did help a lot. I felt renewed, and I achieved the habits I had set for myself. It’s great. Setting resolutions isn’t for everybody, but giving it a shot may help push you a little further than before.” comments Von Jett.
As the New Year begins, it’s a great time to reflect on previous years and set goals for the future. Everybody celebrates the start of the year with different traditions, but it gives us all a chance to start fresh, try new things, and enjoy what’s to come.
