Disney/Hollywood Records – Before her hit album “Short n’ Sweet”, Sabrina Carpenter was best known for being a star on Disney Channel. The artist starred in “Girl Meets World” a spin-off of the popular sitcom “Boy Meets World.” As the show was running, Carpenter released various singles and signed a five album contract with Disney’s Hollywood Records. Though the albums received good reviews, Carpenter felt that Hollywood Records limited her artistic freedom and that she was ready for a more mature sound. Ultimately, she ended up splitting her final album with Hollywood Records, Singular, into two acts so she could speed up the process. Many students at Oakdale, including Senior Victoria Ogundipe, knew Carpenter from her Disney Channel days. “I discovered her in elementary school through a friend that knew her song “Thumbs.” “That was the first song of hers I ever listened to.”
Island Records – In 2021, after her contract with Hollywood Records ended, Carpenter signed with Island Records and released the single “Skin” on January 22nd of that year. The single marked her first entry into Billboard’s Hot 100 and Global 200 charts, marking a new chapter in her career. Before her album “Emails I Can’t Send” released on July 15, 2022, Carpenter released more singles, most notably “Because I Liked a Boy” which was a response to the persistent online backlash she received for ties to actor/singer Joshua Bassett. Carpenter started her “Emails I Can’t Send Tour” in September 2022, and gained more fame due to her fan-favorite improvised outros for the song “Nonsense.”
Opener for Taylor Swift – Carpenter opened for Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” throughout 2023 and 2024 for Latin American, Australian, and Singaporean shows. Before her worldwide fame, Carpenter would post covers of songs by various artists including Swift, and she described the experience as a childhood dream come true.
Short N Sweet – 2024 was a breakthrough year for Carpenter. She released the single “Espresso” on April 11, performing at Coachella the next day. The song reached the top of the Billboard Global 200, and earned her the MTV Video Music Award Song of the Year and a Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance. By the end of the year, the song had reached 1.6 billion streams on Spotify. Ogundipe notes that the singer’s fame wasn’t just limited to the music. She’s really famous now, and online I see a lot of people talking about her haircut and trying to get her signature bangs.” Carpenter released another single, “Please Please Please” on June 6th, which was co-produced by accomplished producer Jack Antonoff. The song was a commercial success and became her first number one single on the US Hot 100. Carpenter’s 6th Album, “Short n’ Sweet” was released August 23rd, and every song from the album reached above top 50 on the Hot 100. Carpenter won 2 out of 6 of her Grammy nominations and became the first act since The Beatles to chart their first three top five songs in the US in the same week. The first three singles from “Short n’ Sweet” remained in the top ten of the Hot 100 for seven weeks consecutively, which is a record for any female artist in history.
Short N Sweet Deluxe – To cap off the successful “Short n’ Sweet” era, Carpenter released a deluxe version of the album on February 14, 2025, which featured a formerly CD exclusive track, “Busy Woman” and a feature from Dolly Parton.
