The new movie, Anyone But You, featuring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, was officially released in theaters on December 22, 2023. The film is a romantic comedy, with the intended audience of teens and young adults. But what was this movie really about?

The movie centered around the two main characters, Bea and Ben, who went on a first date that ended poorly. It caused them to hate each other, but when Bea’s sister and Ben’s friend get married, they were forced to be together in Australia for two weeks. Their family wants them to get together to get rid of the tension, so the two decided to fake their love.

This continues until there is an incident where Bea falls off a boat into water, and Ben decides to jump in after her. The two realize they have regained feelings for each other, but there are still problems revolving around Ben’s ex. But, they talk about it and Ben explains he only has feelings for Bea.

The movie was filled with humor, twists, and romantic scenes. It was very entertaining to watch, and kept viewers hooked through the duration of it.

“It kept me pretty interested throughout the whole thing,” Eighth grader at Frederick Middle School Cecilia Cleary claims.

With 3.7 stars on Google, almost 75% are 5 star ratings. Many of the recent reviews state, “Best rom-com in years.”

“This movie is, by far, the best one I have watched this year, even though we are only in the first weekend of that said year,” and “This film is going to be an absolute classic talked about for years and years to come,” continued other reviews.

“It was a really good movie, definitely one of my top 10 favorites. I really liked the plot, the acting, the characters, everything,” senior at Oakdale, Charvi Bethu, explains. The movie had amazing acting, with very talented actors being featured.

The expectations were high for Anyone But You, as it gained popularity on TikTok. Sophomore at Oakdale, Addie Hunter shares, “I was definitely entertained the whole time but there were a couple of times during the movie where I got second hand embarrassment because of the characters.” Throughout the movie, there were many parts that were intended to be humorous, but some included embarrassing scenes.

Overall, the movie was  entertaining and funny. Hunter shares, “I’d recommend this movie to a friend, it was funny, cute, and enjoyable.” The movie comes recommended for viewers who enjoy romance scenes, as well as humorous scenes.
