Reneé Rapp poses for Mean Girls: Plastic Is Forever Movie cover

On Wednesday, November 1, Walmart released their annual Black Friday ad featuring some of the original Mean Girls cast. This consisted of Lacey Chabert, Lindsey Lohan, Rajiv Surendra, and  Daniel Franzese. The cast reenacted some of the iconic scenes in the original movie, including the Winter Talent Show, which featured  ‘the new plastics.’ This Black Friday ad teased the new Mean Girls trailer that came out two days later.

In the trailer, there were many new faces such as Reneé Rapp as Regina George, Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, Bebe Woods as Gretchen Wieners and many more! Many fans are looking forward to Reneé Rapp playing Regina because of her past Broadway experience playing Regina in Mean Girls: the musical

Junior Emma Tate Carter shares, “I think that the new cast is great especially since Reneé Rapp is going to be Regina in the new movie was also casted to be Regina on Broadway, but I don’t think anybody can beat the original cast.”

Tina Fey, a popular actress and comedian, is directing the screenplay for the new Mean Girls movie. She wrote the original Mean Girls script, as well as acting as Mrs. Norbury. With all the fame the movie got since its release in 2004, it is evident that the new movie will populate through this new generation. Fey has plenty of recent designs to bring to the movie. The new movie will be a comedic musical, and it seems like many are going to enjoy it based on the trailer.

“I think that the new movie is going to be similar to the old one but not quite the same. I think that since there are new characters it will not be the same and as good as the old one. But overall I’m really looking forward to the movie and I think I will enjoy it,” Sophomore Molly Mcneece shares.

On January 24, 2023, the new movie comes out and many look forward to watching the similarities and differences in this movie, compared to the original. Giving the 20 year time difference, Fey is going to have many fresh ideas and seeing some of her work put together will be entertaining.
