exception.
Perhaps the sports season that has been affected by this virus the most is Major League
Baseball. COVID-19 forced the MLB to cancel each of the 30 teams’ last few games in spring
training, which consisted of 37 games. When opening day came for the MLB, no teams saw any
action, with each 30 teams games being postponed for an unknown amount of time.
This shutdown of the season could make a dent in each team’s chance for the playoffs if the
missed games are not made up. Some teams that have not done so well in the past are utilizing
the regular season to make adjustments for the team. Many teams’ playoff run counted on a full
regular season, not to mention the fans want to see a whole season of baseball, and so do the
players.
Games being canceled isn’t the only effect of the league’s decision; pay for players can become
a problem. While players do make money when they’re not playing, it’s not nearly as much.
This may not be as big of an issue in Major League Baseball, but what about Minor League
Baseball?
