Mr.Oakdale has been an annual tradition at this school for many years, with contestants raising money for charity and performing talents for the title of “Mr.Oakdale.” This year, the talent portion was extraordinary. Before the performances, the boys had been dressing up for themes and twinning with teachers as they raised money for their selected charity.
Sam Skinner’s talent was definitely a crowd favorite as he performed an impressive karate demonstration. “I used to do it in middle school so I was like why not break out the nunchucks,” Skinner explained.
Skinner raised money for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a charity that builds and delivers beds to children who don’t have beds to sleep in.
“Winning Mr.Oakdale was definitely one of my highlights of senior year. It was such a fun experience and we had such a friendly competition going on the whole week so coming out with the bragging rights was pretty cool. I was a lot more proud of how much money I was able to raise so I would say that really felt like a true victory,” Skinner states.
Gabriel Guider sang and danced to “I Want you back” by Jackson 5. “It took me maybe 2-3 weeks to prepare for my talent because I had to make the choreography then teach my friends. It was hard because not everyone was available at the same time,” Guider described.
Guider raised money for Leveling the Playing Field, helping kids in under-resourced communities play the sport they want.
Reeves Ade’s talent left the audience screaming and singing along as he performed Nicki Minaj’s “Roman Revenge.” “I chose to do this talent because I thought the wigs and alternative performance would win funny points with the judges,” Ade expressed.
He raised money for Human Concern International, which helps projects all over the world and more specifically children in Gaza affected by the ongoing war.
Brady Touchet’s decision to serenade the audience with the whimsical charm of “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets movie that brought laughter and joy to the crowd. With a knack for singing and a desire to spread cheer, Touchet’s performance supported The Breasties, an organization offering support to those affected by breast and reproductive cancers.
Eli Corridon-Crum performed Tom Holland’s “Umbrella” from Lip Sync Battle. “I chose this talent because I was talking to my mom and other teachers and decided it would be funny and nice” Corridon-Crum shapes.
Corridon-Crum raised money for Wags to Riches, a charity that helps abused homeless animals.
The show as a whole has been extremely eventful and had quite a turnout. With the 5 boys group dance, bear wear and interviews, individual talents, and ending with their formal wear.
