Oakdale Swim: an exciting season

Grant Robley, Editor

Oakdale swimming has been one of the most successful programs in Oakdale sports history. Last year, Oakdale boys won county’s, and girls were runner ups. This year, Oakdale is undefeated; both boys and girls have not lost a single meet.

Oakdale’s first meet was against Middletown and it was a competitive and exciting meet. Middletown girls won county’s last year, so the Oakdale girls were wanting some sweet revenge. Oakdale girls won the meet 109-74, one of the closest meets of the season, while the boys won 119-64.2

Oakdale’s next meet was against TJ high school and it was another competitive and tough meet for Oakdale. Oakdale girls and boys won, with girls winning 120-66, and boys winning 110-69. A very good start for Oakdale swim.

Oakdale then went on to beat Brunswick and Catoctin, where the meets were very easy as Brunswick had 15 swimmers, and Catoctin had 15 swimmers, with only one boy.

The latest meet was against Walkersville. Walkersville was going to be Oakdale’s toughest competition, with almost the same amount of kids as Oakdale and a skilled and competitive team. The meet had been a very close one, back and forth from Oakdale to Walkersville. The boys prevailed and won the meet 102-74, and the girls won 129-56.

Tuscarora is a  tough competitor. The only way Oakdale is going to compete against Tuscarora is in county’s. Oakdale is hoping that they can keep up with county’s  and are looking to bring home the county championship again this year.

On January 16th, senior night was held. Senior night is an event held by all of Oakdale swim, representing and recognizing all the seniors and what they have done for Oakdale swim. The meet was against Frederick. Oakdale boys and girls both won, keeping their undefeated rank.

January 24th was the last dual meet between Oakdale and Linganore. Linganore girls are a very good swim team. It was the closest meet Oakdale girls have had all year. The score was 94-92, one of the closest meets Oakdale has had in its history!

Andrew White, a senior at Oakdale High School, also, a swimmer for Oakdale High School, states “The Oakdale High School swim team is not only a great team, it’s the best team at Oakdale or anywhere in the county.” Andrew White is a senior who has swam with Oakdale for all 4 of his years, and is hoping to get his 4th county title. “The boys have won 5 straight county titles and the girls have won 2 of the last 4.”

With Frederick County Swim Championships coming up, Oakdale boys and girls are both working to bring home the county championship!
