For this Valentine’s Day, a new sales idea was brought to Oakdale. Oakdale’s ASL Club sold “I Love You” ornaments in all lunch shifts during the week of Feb 5-9. In the past there have been many Valentine’s sales, one of which being the flower arrangements that the Horticulture class makes and sells every year. These ornaments are in the handshape that means “I love you” in sign language.
Making these ornaments took a lot of time and lots of help. Junior Sommer Goodman and Senior Kaelin Bailey are both part of the ASL Club.
“We all thought that it would be important to spread love during this Valentine’s season and incorporate the ASL community into it.” Goodman says, sharing how the club came up with the idea to make and sell these ornaments.
Showing kindness to others is important in many different ways. The point of these ornaments is to spread an act of kindness to someone, even if they aren’t expecting it.
“Some people might not be shown on a daily basis that they are loved, so reminding someone is what matters most.” Bailey states.
For the people who bought one of these ornaments, members of the club delivered them to classrooms during school.
“The ornaments will be dropped off during 4th block on Valentine’s Day.” Goodman shared.
“It’s to show awareness towards the deaf community along with spreading positivity.” Bailey shared. “It shows someone that you love and care about them.” Goodman added.
The idea behind selling these is very important. Overall this brand new sale was a big success at Oakdale, and should be continued in the years to come!
