Get ready for Beyonce’s new album that will take you down to the south. On February 11, during a SuperBowl commercial, R&B and pop singer Beyonce announced she was releasing a new album and is switching genres to country. Many fans are surprised by this switch and some are confused as to why she decided to switch her genres just for Act II and if she will ever return to her original genres.
“I think that she switched up because she’s been doing the same thing for so long, and she wanted to have a change in music and the way she sings and she started getting bored of doing the same thing,” freshman Malia Velez predicted.
Beyonce’s album Act II is her eighth studio album and it’s set to be filled with country songs including two of her newest singles Texas Hold ‘Em and 16 Carriages. In 2022, she released her album Renaissance which is a three part project and Act II is going to be the second part of the Renaissance project. Texas Hold ‘Em is flooding social media with users dancing to the song and conveying their reviews
“I think Texas Hold ‘Em and 16 Carriages are decent. I personally think other people would like them a lot more than me but they’re not bad,” Malia shares.
Beyonce’s singles are doing really well and these may predict how well her album is going to do in the future. On February 20th, Texas Hold ‘Em reached Billboards #1 on Hot Country Songs making Beyonce the first African American woman to be number 1 on Hot Country Songs. 16 Carriages was also on the top ten Hot Country Songs and reached #9 top country songs. With the placement of Beyonce’s new singles, fans predict Act II will win a ton of awards and received #1 on many music billboards.
With the announcement of Act II, country fans that tend to listen to country singers such as Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen, don’t think that the album is ‘traditional country’ music; some country fans believe that the latest singles released by Beyonce have a more pop feel to it rather than country.
“I expect her album to be good because anything from her tends to be good. I expect it to be getting some backlash though because some people that are in the country music community pool can tend to be judgmental,” freshman Katie Last comments.
Act II is set to be released on March 29, 2024. Fans, be prepared to get your cowboy hats and boots to dance the night away!
