The day after Halloween, stores put up Christmas decorations, houses begin to be decorated, and seasonal Christmas drinks come out, but we seem to forget about Thanksgiving. It’s never too early to get excited for Christmas and have spirit and joy although, some tend to forget we have another holiday before it, Thanksgiving.
When you pass houses during November, you’re more likely to see Christmas decorations than Thanksgiving or fall decorations. With the presents kids receive from “Santa,” kids are more likely to enjoy Christmas, making it very popular. With the excitement and happiness of the kids, it could also make the parents excited for them as well. If you are religious, Christmas could mean a lot to you knowing it’s Jesus’ birthday making it not just an “ordinary holiday.”
Senior Hebsiba Kim says, “Christmas is more meaningful to me because it’s Jesus’ birthday and just a special day to me celebrating with the people I love.”
When you think about Thanksgiving, most likely what comes to mind is the delicious food you eat: the pumpkin and apple pie, the turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes and many more.
Christmas food is more candy canes, eggnog, gingerbread, and peppermint. There are more filling food options at Thanksgiving and have the entire day to eat.
Thanksgiving is usually just celebrated on one day or a weekend while Christmas is much more spread out, especially if you have a big family or family that lives far away. With Christmas, there’s parties beforehand and events. Christmas shopping may also take place a month or two before the actual holiday.
Senior, from Linganore High School, Brian Bedard states, “I enjoy Christmas more because I feel like more people are [more] involved with the holiday and overall season around it. There’s more movies, decorations, activities, and excitement”.
Thanksgiving often gets overlooked, although if you enjoy feasting on delicious food while spending quality time with family, Thanksgiving is definitely the holiday for you. Christmas often gets more attention, but both are great to celebrate being with family and friends.
