The Varsity Field Hockey Season Comes To an End

After a long season with ups and downs, the Oakdale High School Varsity Field Hockey Season has come to an end. Oakdale  made it all the way to the state quarterfinals, but unfortunately their season came to a quick end in the playoffs losing to Severna Park 5-0 and ending their season with a record of 12-3.

During the season, Head Coach, Sherry Morres, was proud of how the girls did this season. Morres didn’t want to just impact the girls with their field hockey careers, but make a difference in the rest of their lives and create many memorable experiences.

Morres was proud about the team winning the second regional title in the program’s history. This season the girls were working hard on their communication during practices and games.

With a bunch of different students in all different grades with many different strengths it is interesting to see that “every single player on the team brings something unique to the group. We really couldn’t have had the successful season we had without each of the athletes.”

Morres explains that there is always an attempt to make practices entertaining, while still getting everything done that is necessary. “It’s a balance between working hard to have a competitive team but also having fun while we are out there.”

There were a few upsets this season, but the field hockey team also had many good victories. The scores against teams either became close, including the Walkersville game which resulted in loss, or the Frederick game which resulted in a win.

This sport  is not just a bunch of people playing together on a team; they became a family as the girls fought all the way to the end of the season. Juniors Allison Finley and Anna Alt helped lead the team to many victories this season.

Her favorite part of the season was the team bonding as Finley stated, “All the team bonding for us to get closer and really get to know each other better.”

Following up, Alt adds, “I enjoy seeing new people on the team every year, and working to win together.”

Overall the Varsity Field Hockey team has been through both ups and downs all season, with many unexpected wins and even losses. The girls fought as hard as they could until the end of the season.
