Whether it’s going to the beach or staying at home relaxing, all Oakdale students are excited about fulfilling their summer plans and getting a long break from school.
Oakdale students have worked very hard throughout the school year and are looking forward to this much deserved free time. Most students plan on spending their summer with friends and touring colleges, specifically rising seniors.
Junior Alexa O’Neil explained that she is spending a lot of time over the summer visiting colleges as well as participating in college-affiliated activities to improve her applications. “I’m doing summer programs to add on to my college applications.” She described that the most important thing to her is figuring out how to look her best on college applications. O’Neil also demonstrated that she was spending a lot of her summer working to earn money for college expenses.
Though sophomores have more time to relax, there is still a lot to do to prepare for their upcoming year. Sophmores have to study for the SAT, reach out to potential colleges, obtain service hours, and do much more.
“I’m doing some college prep such as beginning my college essay, thinking about my major, and more. There’s a lot to think about, and it can be pretty stressful,” Sophomore Avery Middleton explained how she was worried about the upcoming year.
College planning aside, lots of students are prepared to enjoy their summer doing things that they love with people they care about. ”I plan on spending most of my time with my friends having a good time, and spending my spare time with college prep,” O’Neil stated.
Though some students plan on traveling far, most spend their time at popular local destinations such as Lake Linganore, Ocean City, Rehoboth Beach, Deep Creek Lake, and more. “I’m going to Florida, Myrtle Beach, Rehoboth beach, and Deep Creek Lake,” Sophomore Samantha Perry shared.
Summer break has lots of benefits along with being a fun experience for students. It’s important for students to have an extended break from school, due to being in school for multiple months straight. “I’m really looking forward to summer because it’s just so nice to get such a long break from school,” sophomore Chelsea Pass commented.
Overall, students are excited to celebrate summer beginning and are planning on making the most out of it!
