Girl’s Field Hockey Season

by Mckenna Whelan

Oakdale’s Field Hockey girls regular season has just recently ended, they’ve battled out competitive games with double over times with great determination. They completed the regular season with a 3-7 record.

Coach Colleen McCarrick, the girl’s coach says, “Even though our score doesn’t do us much justice, our team played many overtimes, and we were a real threat to some of the strongest teams in the county.”

Coach McCarrick says the Linganore game was her favorite; she says the girls worked hard and never gave up. At halftime Linganore was winning 2-0; then, Oakdale came back and scored two goals at the beginning of the second half! The game went into a tough double overtime. Even with Linganore taking the win, the close game really expressed Oakdale’s bold fortitude.

The girls had the pleasure to welcome Coach McCarrick to her first year of coaching and being a teacher at Oakdale.

“Ms. McCarrick is really nice, she’s a great coach, she’s really good at field hockey and teaching us new skills,” stated Field Hockey Captain Kassie Thamarus.

McCarrick expresses “managing my time as a first year teacher and coach has been the hardest part. There have been some late nights at school but it is absolutely worth it!”

McCarrick has enjoyed being a part of team and working with the girls. McCarrick also states, “I love the opportunity to work with such a great group of girls!”

Then she goes on to say, “They are all so incredibly hardworking and bring so much energy and enthusiasm to the Field hockey program. It is really neat to see their progress throughout the season!”

Students and parents cheered on the team as they took down Winters Mill in their first play-off game winning 1-0. Unfortunately, they lost in the second round to Middletown High School.

As the season ends, we want to congratulate the Oakdale Girls Field Hockey Team for their dedication and hard work on and off the field, for that is was truly matters.
