Justice Amy Coney Barrett is an American lawyer who has recently been selected to serve as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Barret was hand picked by President Donald Trump. Most notably, Barrett is known for being anti LGBTQIA+ impartiality, anti gun control, and an activist for the opposition of select reproductive rights.

American Studies teacher, Nate Smarick, stated, “Abortion will probably not become illegal. I think Roberts and one other member of the conservative wing join the three liberals to save Roe. But I could be wrong.”

Many others also agree that the illegalization of abortion is not an up coming event with the new member. “No I do not think abortion will become illegal. I think to overturn Roe v. Wade would be highly unlikely.” says Terry Kenney, Oakdale’s Government  teacher.

After Barrett’s nomination, demonstrators gathered outside the Supreme Court to both support and protest Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation as the new justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Although the protesters during these events were not uncomfortable hiding their beliefs, high school teachers were understandably uncomfortable answering questions about their personal views.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett is surrounded by a lot of controversy. Some view her as a hero, and some view her as a person who will deny some rights.
