2019-20 OHS Young Authors’ Contest Finalists Named at School Level

Twelve students have been named school level finalists in the 2019-20 State of Maryland Literacy Association (SoMLA) Young Authors’ Contest. Six first place students will be moving forward to the county level competition to vie against writers of poetry and short stories from other high schools across Frederick County. Beyond that, county winners will be sent to compete at the state level. We wish them the best of luck! The 1st & 2nd place finalists are as follows, along with their grades, category (p/poetry or ss/short story), and place awards. Joy Campbell (11p-1st; 11ss-1st), Christian Due (12ss-1st), Jocelyn Gettys (10ss-2nd), Brendan Hylton (12ss-2nd), Benjamin Matthews (9ss-2nd), Angelica Ramos (10p-1st), Elijah Royal (12p-2nd), Megan Schulien (11p-2nd), Alli Stup (10p-2nd), Hisham Virk (9ss-1st), Adeline Vogt (10ss-1st), Anna Willson (12p-1st) 

Bonnie Claggett and Finding Your Footprint Foundation, Inc will visit OHS Wednesday December 11th to help students learn stress management strategies and meditation.  You may sign up using the QR code (please display QR code on flyer). All students attending will have their names entered in a drawing for one free Oakdale admission pass which may be used at any Oakdale event.  Staff are welcome as well.

 

Students interested in conducting their own research or designing a solution should see Mrs. Morgenthaler in B114. An interest meeting will be on December 13th during SET. Your ideas could have you representing OHS next May. 

 

Attention baseball players. There will be a preseason meeting directly after school this Friday, December 6th, in Coach Mills’ room, B230. The meeting will be relatively brief and will cover tryout details as well as off season scheduling. See coach Mills with any questions.

 

Oakdale Ice Hockey takes on Carroll County this Friday, December 6th. The puck drops at 7:45 pm. Admission is free at Skate Frederick. Come out and cheer on your Bears!

 

You can save three lives this holiday season!  In the spirit of giving, The National Honor Society will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, 13 December in the Auxiliary Gym.  If you are 16 years old and interested in donating blood, please see Dr. Schoder in room B 206 for a permission slip.
