On Thursday 29 students and 8 teachers took the plunge in the frigid waters of the Chesapeake bay. It was windy and rainy but they did it! They were able to raise over $6,000 dollars for Special Olympics Maryland! Special shout out to Ellie Townshend for raising over $1200. Ellie was in the top 5 overall student fundraisers across all schools. Special thank you to everyone for all of your support of Special Olympics Maryland.

2018 STEP UP! Student Songwriting Contest.

Chords of Courage is changing the conversation from the demoralizing and cynical to the hopeful and inspirational – one song at a time. We have created the first songwriting contest of its kind in the world and will be conducting it in Frederick, Maryland. The contest is open to Frederick County middle and high school age students and encourages them to use their creativity to write dynamic and powerful songs about people of particular courage.

Chords of Courage has a workshop on February 2. To sign up and read more about the contest go to chordsofcourage.org

This week’s student of the week is Linsey Rotter.  Linsey was nominated by Ms. Murdoch because Linsey is a genuine sweet and good nature human being. She comes to the Media Center because of her dual enrollment schedule and is always quiet, courteous, and studious. She keeps to her routine and works independently each morning. She is the student that is always doing the right thing when no one is watching. Her character and kind disposition can be overlooked because of her quiet nature and Ms. Murdoch wanted her to know that we notice and appreciate that she is responsible and respectful everyday. Thanks for being such a great BEAR! As this week’s students of the week, Linsey will receive a cookie from Ms. Clabaugh and one free admission to an Oakdale High School event.  Way to go Linsey!
