Oakdale’s Did You Miss This: Sept. 15th, 2023

  • Escaped Pennsylvania prisoner now armed with a stolen rifle and ‘extremely dangerous,’ police say: On Aug. 31st, 34-year-old convicted killer, Danelo Cavalcante escaped from an eastern Pennsylvania prison. On Monday, September 11th, he stole a rifle and fled. On Wednesday, September 13th, he was captured. He is now in police custody. 

 

  • Aaron Rodgers injured in first drive for New York Jets, who go on to improbable OT win: During his first game of the year for the New York Jets, on Monday night, Aaron Rodgers was “carted off the field.” It was found out, the next day, that he tore his Achilles tendon. He will not be able to play again this season. 

 

  • Massachusetts city under state of emergency after ‘catastrophic’ flash floods: Massachusetts city of Leominster was under a state of emergency on Monday Afternoon due to the devastating flash floods. 

 

  • FDA signs off on updated Covid-19 vaccines that target circulating variants: On Monday, the FDA approved the new Covid-19 vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer, that fight against new, circulating variants such as EG. 5 and XBB.1.5. The hope is that people to be able to start getting the new vaccine by the end of this week

 

  • DuVal High School student dead after shooting near campus in Lanham, MD: A DuVal High School was shot and killed after a shooting that happened Monday afternoon, right outside the school in Lanham, Md.
