When discussing movies, the horror genre is especially favored when the air becomes cooler. One of the more popular horror movies in the past couple years is the movie Smile, which came out in September of 2022. The Smile movie attracted many to the theaters and was preparation for Halloween. Since then, a sequel—Smile 2— has come into theaters. This movie has many questioning, “is Smile 2 the perfect movie for Halloween?”
“I like [horrors] when I am watching with a group of people, but I could never watch them alone.” Sophomore Cassidy Austin shared her opinion on horror movies after watching Smile 2.“I would give it a 7/10, it was much scarier than I thought it would be and there were too many jump scares but it also had a good story line and I enjoyed it more than the 1st because I knew what to expect.”
“The good things were that it wasn’t predictable from any angle and had lots of jump scares…The only bad thing was that it was confusing,” Sophomore Jasmin Jones spoke about both the good and bad things she thought about the movie.
Similar to the opinion expressed by sophomore Lillie Tremper. “It was hard to tell what was real and what was fake,” Tremper explained. With the Smile sequence still being new to the overflowing genre of horror movies many people seem to be expressing positive opinions toward it and its extreme amount of horrifying scenes that draw the viewer in.
With the release of Smile 2 into theaters, many viewers have been intrigued and eager to see if it can compare to the thrills of the original. Both Jones and Tremper were in agreement when they exclaimed their thoughts on if this movie met the horror Halloween movie expectations. “I thought it was a very good movie and would recommend people to watch it around Halloween,” Jones proclaimed. Overall, Smile 2 shares suspenseful scenes that draws viewers in and creates a terrifying experience for anyone who watches it, keeping them up at night. The movie has solidified its place in the horror genre and has already been favored by many people across the globe and will continue to use its creepy visuals to send chills down your spine.
