Rock Out With Your Socks Out: A Review

5sos - emily koogle

by Emily Koogle & Anna Jones

5 Seconds of Summer fans in Lisbon, Portugal, surely weren’t ready for the first big show that Aussie band, 5 Seconds of Summer, headlined on May 4th, 2015, for their Rock Out With Your Socks Out tour.

This is the band’s first headlining arena tour since they formed in 2011, including members Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin. Their first tour as a band was supporting One Direction on their “Take Me Home” tour in 2013, which left the band feeling secure in their abilities to perform for larger crowds. It didn’t stop there — after their debut album release in 2014 they supported One Direction yet again on a stadium tour, performing before a total of over three million fans all over the world.

Now the band is finding that their own success not only comes from hard work, but from their drive to perform their own pop-punk influenced music.

Interviewed by Alter The Press!, drummer Ashton Irwin expressed his feeling for performing to all of those people: “I can’t wait to create something cool and special for the fans, ourselves, and put on a cool rock show.”

While the show was live-streamed, a new song was debuted to the fans called “Permanent Vacation.” This was instantly on every type of social media possible within hours and has already been suspected as one of the new releases on their sophomore album expected to drop by the end of the year.

With this world tour sure to be a major success, 5 Seconds of Summer are scheduled to perform sold out shows in Europe, South America, North America, and Australia. Up and coming artist, Hey Violet!, who are signed to 5 Seconds of Summer’s Hi or Hey Records, are set to tour with them as a supporting act.
