The holiday season comes with lots of activities, events, and of course, the treats. From hot chocolate to fruitcake, sweet treats bring festive cheer to the holiday season. As the new year quickly approaches, let’s take a look at Oakdale’s favorite treats during the 2023 holiday season.

After surveying 53 Oakdale students, the results revealed hot chocolate and holiday cookies are definitely a fan favorite. 32% of students voted for hot chocolate, 20% voted for holiday cookies, 15% voted for gingerbread, and remaining students voted for candy canes, brownies, cheesecake, chocolate bark, or eggnog.

Junior Maya Mangene explained her opinions on hot chocolate being the most popular holiday treat at OHS: “I only drink hot chocolate if it’s cold, I’m not a big fan of hot drinks. But, I’m not surprised it was voted the best, it’s such a common holiday drink.”

Not only do holiday treats satisfy sweet tooths, but bring friends and family together. Junior Ella Toms explained how one of her traditions around the holidays is making Christmas Cookies.“Every year I make Christmas cookies with my Grandparents and cousins. Snickerdoodles remind me of the holidays because I get to spend time with my family.”

According to an article from NBC New York, “Seventy percent of Americans said they plan on making Christmas candy, cookies or desserts this season, according to a poll by Monmouth University.” Additionally, the poll revealed frosted sugar cookies were the favorite Christmas cookies in the United States.

Seeing grocery stores packed with holiday themed foods and beverages can bring back those seasonal memories. Toms shared, “When stores start to change over their stuff into Christmas, I get so excited for the upcoming season.” Whether it’s building a gingerbread house or frosting sugar cookies holiday treats make the season just a little bit sweeter.
