The stage is set. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles will face off in Super Bowl 59, a rematch of Super Bowl 57, where the Chiefs won from a walk-off field goal from Kicker Harrison Butker.
Both teams had a very rough journey to the big game. The Eagles landed the NFC’s second seed, having to face off against opponents like the Green Bay Packers, the Los Angeles Rams, and The Washington Commanders. The Eagles breezed through these games, outscoring the opponents 105-65.
The Chiefs with a first round bye faced off against the Houston Texans, and Buffalo Bills, with these games being much closer, as the Chiefs only outscored their opponents 55-43.
“The Kansas City Chiefs have an amazing team and have shown that they are the best for half a decade now and the Philadelphia Eagles have the best defense in the league and acquiring Saquon put them into this position to succeed.“ commented Senior Dean Bernas
In the NFC Championship, the score at halftime sat at 27-15, with Philadelphia holding the lead over Washington. Philadelphia and its rushing attack led by former number two overall pick Saquon Barkley showed to be too strong for the Commanders defense, as Barkley took his first rush of the game 60 yards for a touchdown, and finished with 118 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles cruised to a 55-23 victory.
“As a Washington fan it was a heartbreaking way to end a miracle season. Four turnovers in a championship game cannot happen and the Eagles just played a better game and wanted it more. An amazing season for both teams and it will be an amazing rivalry for the next couple of years,“ remarked Bernas
In the AFC Championship, the game between the Buffalo Bills and the Chiefs ended up to be closer than its predecessor in Philadelphia, as the score at the half was 21-16 in favor of the Chiefs. Both the Chiefs and Bills had an excellent rushing offense, as the two teams combined for five touchdowns, with Patrick Mahomes getting two himself. The Chiefs ended up finding their groove and won in a pretty even game, 32-29.
This game was much more controversial than the other championship game, as many fans on social media claim the NFL to be “biased” towards the two time MVP Patrick Mahomes. Former Pittsburgh Steelers All Pro Cam Heyward weighed in, stating, “Yeah, Mahomes is going to get calls, he’s the Manu Ginobili where they’re flopping and flailing their arms out there.”
“I was disappointed that the Bills lost because most people are tired of the Chiefs, including me. I want to see a different team in the Super Bowl,” stated Junior Luke Stadelman
The one headline from this year’s Super Bowl is that the Halftime Show will be performed by rap superstar Kendrick Lamar. Lamar has also stated that he will bring on R&B superstar SZA to perform with him.
“I think the Chiefs are gonna win because they are comfortable in these types of games and always seem to step it up in the playoffs,” explained Stadelman
The ball kicks off in the Caesars Superdome, in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 9th, 2025. The Chiefs will once again hold destiny in their hands, as they look to win three straight Super Bowls.
