Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers, along with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, are heading to Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 11.
San Francisco seeks vengeance since their last Super Bowl appearance four years ago where they lost to the Chiefs 20-31, but the Chiefs are attempting to win back-to-back Super Bowl wins for the first time since the 2003 New England Patriots. Yet the question remains, who’s going to win?
During the NFC Championship game, doubts of the 49ers making the Super Bowl were very slim with the score 24-7 at the half with the Lions on top. In the third quarter, the 49ers were able to score 17 unanswered in eight minutes, tying the game and scoring another ten to put them on top winning 34-31.
Before this game, the AFC Championship took place at M&T bank stadium featuring the Chiefs at Ravens. The Ravens had a total of eight penalties leading up to 95 yards and three turnovers, giving the Chiefs defense a field day before moving on to the Super Bowl. ESPN analytics predicted the Ravens winning with a 4.5 difference.
Most Raven and Lions fans were disappointed, as they were unable to make the Super Bowl. Although, losing in the playoffs might be worse than losing the big game according to Sophomore Zack Dunker as he states, “It probably feels worse to lose the Super Bowl than getting knocked out of any round of the playoffs.”
In the Pregame show, Reba McEntire and Post Malone will kick off. Afterwards, Usher will perform on the Headline Halftime show.
Three days prior to the Super Bowl are the NFL Awards, where the 49ers’ running back, Christian McCaffrey is nominated for Offensive Player of the Year. Also, both McCaffrey and 49ers’ quarterback, Brock Purdy are nominated for MVP.
With all of this going on, the stages are hot for both the Chiefs and 49ers. Many thoughts are that with the 49ers having ‘weapons’ like McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle, the Chiefs’ defense will have a hard time stuffing their offense.
“I think the 49ers will perform better because they are a more well-rounded team on both sides of the ball and it’s going to make the chiefs have a harder time defending,” junior Brady Ryan explains, as the 49ers advantage going into the Super Bowl,
With both teams having stellar offense and defenses, this game is going to be a game in the making, as many are hoping this game doesn’t turn out like Super Bowl LIV.
