This years Girls Varsity Basketball team is the first team in Frederick County to go undefeated in their conference. Oakdale’s record is 13-0 in the conference. Going into the playoffs the girls are the number one seed and have a first round bye.
Their first game was against Walkersville, their county rival. The game was hard fought with nasty battles and close calls. The girls were able to defeat Walkersville 63 to 47.
The girls continued into the third round of playoffs, Saturday night against Williamsport. There next game was a blowout The team beat Williamsport 58 to 36.
“It feels incredible to defeat Walkersville for the third time this season. Williamsport came out strong in the start but we were able to fight back. Both games were very high energy and huge wins for us,” Junior Jackie Lamont explains.
“Going into playoffs our seniors know any game could be their last game, so we have to play with the mindset that it may be our last game and we have to leave it all on the court.” Junior Sara Parnes says.
Senior Captains Liz Moorman, Christi LaBella, and Natalie Galavez have been leading the team throughout the season. The Oakdale girls team is working towards their goal of winning a state title and raising a banner in the gym. The teammates all get along and play the games for each other rather than for themselves, creating a strong bond and friendship.
Monday night’s game is against Liberty as the Bears battle for the 2A West Regional Championships. To prepare for the game the girls have the same strategy used in the previous games.The team watches game film, reads the scouting report, and practices hard in order to prepare for going up against a tough team.
“It feels amazing to go into the regional finals tonight, especially because this is the farthest Oakdales Girls basketball has ever made it.” Junior Cameron Pitts reflects.
The girls team was able to beat Liberty and win Regional Championships for Oakdale High. The team continued onto State Semi-finals at Towson University. Oakdale played Oakland Mill and won by over 20 points. LaBella had around 20 points and Cameron Pitts also had an amazing game with around 20 rebounds.
The team continues onto states where they will verse Patterson Mill from Harford County. The game will also be held at Towson University Saturday at 1.

The Oakdale Girls Basketball team made it all the way to the State Championship game. The girls played Patterson Mill at Towson University on Saturday. Unfortunately the girls lost the finals game but only within 10 points. The team is proud of how far they were able to make it in the playoffs. This years 2014-2015 season was the best one Oakdale basketball has seen. The team has created a legacy that all Oakdale Girl’s Basketball team will look and live up to.
