This years Girls Varsity Basketball team is the first team in Frederick County to go undefeated in their conference. Oakdale’s record is 13-0 in the conference. Going into the playoffs the girls are the number one seed and have a first round bye.

“Going into playoffs our seniors know any game could be their last game, so we have to play with the mindset that it may be our last game and we have to leave it all on the court.” Junior Sara Parnes says.

Senior Captains Liz Moorman, Christi LaBella, and Natalie Galavez have been leading the team throughout the season. The Oakdale girls team is working towards their goal of winning a state title and raising a banner in the gym. The teammates all get along and play the games for each other rather than for themselves, creating a strong bond and friendship.

Monday night’s game is against Liberty as the Bears battle for the 2A West Regional Championships. To prepare for the game the girls have the same strategy used in the previous games. The team watches game film, reads the scouting report, and practices hard in order to prepare for going up against a tough team.

“It feels amazing to go into the regional finals tonight, especially because this is the farthest Oakdales Girls basketball has ever made it.” Junior Cameron Pitts reflects.
