This year’s track season is coming to an end, and many major meets are coming up. Students are preparing for nationals, regionals, and states. As these important events are in the near future, many team members are reflecting on their performances this season.
For some members, there have been a variety of struggles this season. Many of which come down to injury.
“Our biggest challenge has probably been the injuries because most of us have gotten hurt at some point [this season],” junior and distance runner Nate Colbert comments.
Injuries have had great effects on the performances of even our top athletes. Junior and throws captain Grant Lohr can relate; he injured his back at the end of the indoor season. This has had lasting effects on his outdoor marks. However, Lohr’s injury has not slowed him down, and he is still headed towards States.
Members have worked to get through these injuries, taking time to take care of themselves. Teammates work together to look out for one another. They keep each other on track by not pushing too hard and taking breaks when needed. Lohr remains optimistic about the team’s prospects.
“I think we have a good chance at winning regionals because the 3A West kind of sucks,” he remarked. Lohr’s dedication to improving his own performance and supporting his teammates underscores Oakdale’s commitment to the team’s excellence and perseverance.
Oakdale athletes work hard to maintain a level of pride in their competitions. Athletes set goals for themselves and are always looking for ways to improve. Lohr is working to improve his marks and set new PR’s for himself. And Colbert is running his hardest at every event to increase his times.
Representing Oakdale High School at higher-level competitions like the Central Maryland Conference (CMC’s) shows a source of pride for these athletes. Colbert expressed his excitement at the opportunity by stating, “Feels pretty good; actually, since last year, I was close to getting it.”
Lohr echoed this thought, emphasizing the significance of representing Oakdale on the competitive stage. “Especially wearing the Oakdale jersey, it’s just like, it’s always a high expectation,” Lohr said, highlighting the school’s strong sports culture and community support.
These athletes remain focused on their goals and are motivated by the opportunity to showcase their talents and represent their school with pride. With determination and teamwork, they are committed to making their mark on the track.
