The 2019/20 NBA season
November 7, 2019
The 2019/20 NBA season is coming off one of the craziest off seasons of all time. With plenty of league-changing trades, extended contracts, and draft picks, this season has very high expectations.
During the off-season, there were many major events. Kevin Durant left the Warriors to join Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn; Anthony Davis left the Pelicans to join Lebron James in Los Angeles (Lakers); and Paul George and Kawaih Leonard both joined the Clippers. Oakdale basketball player, Junior Nolan Dame, stated that the Anthony Davis trade was a success to the league and the Lakers.
For the first time in a long time, the NBA is now balanced with multiple teams having two all-stars. The Lakers, Clippers, Warriors, Celtics, 76ers, Rockets, Trail Blazers, Wizards, Bucks, Raptors, Nuggets, Hawks, Spurs, and Mavericks have at least two current and/or ex all-star players. With this said, Dame stated that the Warriors will struggle this season with many veterans leaving and also an NBA MVP and future hall of famer in Kevin Durant.
This year’s draft class had some of the best prospects in a few years. The top rookies this year are Zion Williams, Ja Morant, and RJ Barrett; this new young core in the NBA has high expectations for this season, with many saying Williamson will win Rookie of the Year; however, all of them have a good chance.
Dame expects Zion WIlliamson to win Rookie of the Year even though he is injured. Williamson is expected to come back in a few months and Nolan stated, “When he comes back he will take over the rookie competition in the league.”
There are many powerhouse players, all out scorers, and top defenders in the NBA today. With very high competition to win Most Valuable Player in the NBA, Nolan believes that James Harden will win MVP during the 2019/20 season. With many of the top teams fighting for a championship, Nolan believes the LA Lakers are going to prevail and win the NBA championship due to their roster having two superstars.
