5/30

Attention All Students: Are you ready for the Battle of the Classes. Starting June 3rd through June 14th; Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior classes will be competing for BEST attendance. Each day your class attendance will be posted on Main Street. At the end of the two weeks, the class with the best attendance will earn an ice cream social on June 17th.  Does your class have what it takes to WIN? Be Respectful, Bear Responsibility, and Strive for Excellence!

Most faculty and staff will be assisting graduation ceremonies at Mount Saint Mary’s University on Friday, May 31.  As a result, underclassmen who choose to attend OHS on this day will be in a full day study hall. They should report to the cafeteria by 7:30 a.m.   Teachers who are remaining behind will supervise these students for the remainder of the day.

If you are taking AP chemistry next year,  please see Mrs Adams in B115 as soon as possible to ensure that she has your name AND school email address.

This week’s student of the week is Brandon Oden.  Brandon was nominated by Ms. Showalter because Brandon is respectful and attentive every day. He stays focused no matter his surroundings and is a positive influence on anyone who works with him. He is also known as the vocabulary king in our group. I appreciate his calm demeanor and willingness to meet expectations every day of this semester. As this week’s Student of the Week, Brandon will receive a cookie from Ms. Clabaugh and one free admission ticket to an Oakdale High School event.  Way to go Brandon!

Congratulations to Rani Jones on winning the Maryland 2A Girls Singles State Championship on Saturday at the Wilde Lake Tennis Club.  She defeated Kallista Lu from Marriotts Ridge six-zero and six-one in the championship match. This marks the first tennis state championship win in Oakdale history and Rani is only the third girl in Frederick County history to win a state singles tennis title!  Way to go Rani!

Reminder to All female athletes please clean out your athletics locker.

Also, if you purchased your own materials and would like to donate them to Ms. Ehrlich, please drop them off in her classroom.  They are much appreciated.

There will be a book drive here during school, Monday, June 3 – Friday, June 7. Hillcrest Elementary School has a high Spanish-speaking Population. There are many children in that Elementary school that don’t yet have the strength with English or other languages in order for them to have a great start with their education.

There will be a literacy night where we will meet up with many of the Spanish-speaking population and get their children exposed to more English through reading books to them and engaging in activities that practice the English language.

All we need is enough books for us to be able to read and give away those books to the children, so we need your help!

You can do so by bringing in children’s books that may be laying in your house. The book can be a English or Spanish and should be in good condition.

Donating your book is easy, there will be boxes set up around the school in English classes as well as the front office and the library. You simply drop and go!
