Hillcrest Elementary School has a high Spanish-speaking Population. There are many children in that Elementary school that don’t yet have the strength with English or other languages in order for them to have a great start with their education.

There will be a literacy night where we will meet up with many of the Spanish-speaking population and get their children exposed to more English through reading books to them and engaging in activities that practice the English language.

All we need is enough books for us to be able to read and give away those books to the children, so we need your help!

You can do so by bringing in children’s books that may be laying in your house. The book can be a English or Spanish and should be in good condition.

Donating your book is easy, there will be boxes set up around the school in English classes as well as the front office and the library. You simply drop and go!

This week’s student of the week is Jon Rosario.  Jon was nominated by Ms. Brown because Jon brings a friendly, kind presence to class every day. He enters the room by saying hello and asking her how her day is going. He makes an effort to get to know his classmates and demonstrates respect and empathy in everything that he does. Jon leads others by his example, showing enthusiasm in the course. . As this week’s Student of the Week, Jon will receive a cookie from Ms. Clabaugh and one free admission ticket to an Oakdale High School event.  Way to go Jon!
