Educators in Rising is a club that has been around for a couple of years. The club has been able to create an environment to learn more about education and teaching. This club has year round events and fundraisers like Candy Grams.

Candy Grams is a sweet little gesture to give a friend or teacher a sweet little treat. The way it works is you go and pay for a treat for the person of your choice and in the next week it will be sent to them through SET. All the money that is raised goes towards the club to be able to continue doing different projects.

Teresa Kenney, a teacher at Oakdale and the advisor for Educators Rising, stated, “A student that graduated had this idea to do this type of thing to raise money since there was no money saved for our club. The money can help the club with things that we do during the year like the book collection where we can be awarded the SET class with the most books.”

This club has been filled with lots of activities year-round but a well known project from the group is the book collection where students donate. Kenney shares the benefits of their donations: “The money that is raised helps the club with things that we do during the year like the book collection where we can awarded the SET class with the most books.”

Educators Rising, which was once called Future Teachers of America, isn’t a super known club around OHS. Many students a part of this club have passion for a teaching career, but as well just want to know more about the education field. Bella Signor, a junior at OHS expressed, “I joined this club when I was a sophomore because I plan on pursuing a career in secondary education. My experience in the club and my experience with our club advisor Ms. Kenney’s PACEE student has definitely solidified my passion.” Many other club members feel very similar.

Signor adds, “I recommend that anyone that has even questioned going into education on any level to join. We have members that are interested in going into education in all levels and specializations so you will definitely find someone to bond with or get introduced to different career ideas. Guest speakers and knowledge from Ms. Kenney has allowed me and other members to get a lot of insight on the profession.” If you’re thinking about joining  Educators Rising in the future. Contact Teresa Kenney  for more information.

Oakdale students are so grateful for all of the club opportunities given and are so excited to see where Candy Grams and all the generous donations do for Educators Rising this year!
