Percy Jackson and the Olympians, one of Disney Plus’s recent releases, debuted on December 19. The show became a divide between Percy Jackson fans. These arguments come down to whether or not the show follows the plot as the books describe. The show takes place in the world of Percy Jackson and follows a similar plot to the books and movies viewers have seen before.

The big question many fans have is whether the show differs enough or too much from the books. Viewers want something new rather than an exact rendition of the movies.

“People who have read the books before watching the series would agree that there are certain scenes that do stray from the original, but that is what gives the show its uniqueness, [it] gives readers something new to look forward to each episode,” Triston Collado, sophomore at OHS claims.

The show has many extra scenes to keep the viewers attention. The show’s modern take on Percy Jackson changes the pacing of the show. The series takes place with modern technology. as “a modern rendition of the book,” Brody Watson, an alumna of Oakdale, describes the series.

Collado informs that the changes make the show feel more unique. The alterations to the plot make the show smoother and easier to follow for viewers.

“The plot points that were adapted and changed work well with the environment of the current world as well as strengthening some ideas of the books to lengthen it for a longer series,” Watson provides.

Both agree that the overall plot of the show carries out the legacy of Percy Jackson, while still creating a captivating and entertaining show for viewers.

“The show is definitely worth the watch, it keeps you engaged in every episode, it does start a bit slow but picks up the pacing in the later episodes,” Collado stated.

Another concern for most fans was the use of younger actors rather than the movies. The books portray younger characters like the show represents. Watson believes the age of the actors in the show is more accurate to the books.

“I really like the chemistry between the actors and how well the pacing is,” Collado shares, confirming that the actors fit well together and make the show seem more real for the audience. The chemistry between the characters adds a more natural feel to the series.

As the series has come to an end, the question of “Will there be another season?” has surfaced. The show’s finale was on January 30th. Although the show has not yet been officially renewed for a second season, Disney plus has expressed interest in another season. Watson adds that he would like to see a second season.

“I am very interested how they will do the show based off the books. If they do make another season it would be spectacular,” Collado elaborates.

Overall, viewers believe the show provides a good rendition of Percy Jackson’s story. The show has been described as a ‘must watch’ by fans. There are many books left in the series, and there could be many more seasons to come.
