-Ex-NFL player, Sergio Brown, was arrested in San Diego on Tuesday in relation to the murder of his mother. He was returning from mexico after being missing for almost a month.
-An 18-year-old high school graduate with a weighted GPA of 4.42 and an SAT score of 1590/1600 was rejected from 16 schools. Stanley Zhong got into 2 of 18 colleges he’d applied to with above average scores, although, he was offered a job as an engineer at Google, which he took. His story has caught some attention and sparked a conversation on the supreme courts decision on banning affirmative action and transparency of college admissions.
-Montana is the first state in the US to pass a complete ban on TikTok, which will go into effect on January 1st, 2023. Although, TikTok and 5 content creators are fighting back to convince the court to block the ban. The content creators argue that the ban would violate their First Amendment, Freedom of Speech Right and would economically harm their business.
-On Sunday, October 8th, Israel formally declared war against the Hamas in retaliation after their surprise attack which left over 1,100 people dead and injured on both sides. Many gruesome attacks have occurred since and the war has been closely followed by the media. Elon Musk’s X, formerly know as twitter, announced the removal of thousands of posts and “Hamas-affiliated accounts.”
-On Saturday, October 7th, California Governor, Gavin Newsom signed a bill to ban four food additives linked to health issues, including cancer. Although the ban won’t go into effect until 2027, California will be the first state to ban these chemicals, which include red dye No. 3.
