The popular show, “Outer Banks,” original Netflix series, released its first episode on April 15, 2020. The show quickly gained popularity, with positive reviews across the board. The show centers around a group of teenagers who are separated on the beach by groups of ‘Kooks’ and ‘Pogues,’ who are on a treasure hunt leading to dangerous adventures, secrets, and rivalries. Fans were excited when the second part of season four was announced to drop on October 10th and November 7th.
The show gained popularity quickly when season one dropped, as many fans were sharing their thoughts on it through TikTok, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. But, the newest season is by far the most anticipated season yet, with 15.5 million viewers the day it was released. It quickly became the most popular show on Netflix, due to its thrilling and engaging content. But, what do Oakdale students think of this show?
“I would recommend this to everyone because it’s deep and emotional and cut. It’s very interesting since it has a lot to do with treasure hunting between the teenagers,” Junior Elizabeth Adewunmi shares. The show reaches out to its audience, and has them on the edge of their seat while watching some of the action and violent scenes shown throughout the episodes.
Additionally, the show creates realistic characters for kids to connect to and understand. “It’s such a good show and makes you feel connected to the characters in a way,” Sophomore, Kylie Rollins, explains.
The show creates close relationships between the friend group, and at times it can almost feel as if you are a part of the friend group. The script writers also make meaningful relationships between couples, which usually makes teens like specific duos very strongly.
Netflix announced that they were making a fourth season of OBX in late August, giving people almost two months to wait for the new season to officially be released. This raised tension and excitement for everyone, as they were ready to see what adventures the show would create. “I don’t think I ever got bored since they took a while to bring out season 4.” Adewunmi quotes. The long wait made it even more exciting and interesting when the show actually came out, as people were tired of waiting and extra excited to see how the episodes would progress.
With over 10k reviews, OBX has been claimed as the #1 show on Netflix right now, with Google reviews stating “OBX has got to be the best ever show I’ve watched,” and other positive comments. The show is entertaining and action filled, which gives watchers interesting content to sit back and watch in their free time. Now fans will excitedly wait for the announcement of when Season five- the final season, will be released.
